When I looked in the mirror I was starting to notice darkness under my eyes. I was always trying to put concealer on to try and brighten it up. It didn’t matter how much sleep I got or how much water I drank (although that does help) the dark circles were still there. This is when I started considering under-eye filler as a solution.
I had seen results from real patients but wasn’t sure if it was for me. After all, I tend to bruise pretty easily. I finally gave in and asked the dermatologist I work with if he could inject me about 2 months prior to my wedding. I wanted to be absolutely sure it had enough time to settle. It was planned for a Friday afternoon so I could have the weekend to hide in my house in case I did bruise. I’m not going to lie, the swelling and bruising were a little scary at first. Once it settled, I no longer regretted it, and now I’m hooked!
If you often feel you spend too much time doing your eye makeup to distract from the circles, or you’re constantly applying under eye serums in the hope it will make those dark circles disappear… I suggest you talk to your dermatologist about under-eye filler otherwise known as tear trough filler. You can get it done, and a few days to a few weeks later when the swelling is down you’ll look well-rested. The best part is you will no longer have to worry as much about concealing those dark circles!

THE BENEFITS OF UNDER-EYE FILLER
Here are just a few of the results you can expect with under-eye filler!
- Reducing dark circles: when extra sleep and increased water intake just aren’t cutting it!
- Appearing well-rested: even as a member of the no-sleep club.
- Resolving many of the fine lines: it literally fills in the wrinkles.
- Improving loss of volume under the eyes: it can turn back the clock several years.
- Brightening your complexion in this area: my favorite result… no more concealer needed.
- Immediate results that can last many months: immediately after any swelling or bruising goes down that is.
THE POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS AND RISKS
It’s not always all rainbows and butterflies. There are potential side effects everyone should be aware of.
- Bruising: This honestly lasted a bit longer than I was expecting. I had to invest in some heavy concealer to try and mask it for the first week. In all the bruising lasted approximately 2.5 weeks. You should not get filler immediately before a big event just in case this also happens to you!
- Uneven filler: after my swelling and bruising went down, I realized the filler was a bit uneven. Fortunately, my colleague had chosen a filler that was easy to manipulate and he was able to quite literally move it into place by pushing it around with his fingers.
- Pain: of course anytime you inject there is a risk of discomfort or pain. I recommend requesting topical numbing prior to the procedure to help minimize this discomfort. I left mine on for about an hour prior to the procedure while I was seeing patients and had minimal discomfort because of that. I did however have tenderness following the procedure simply due to the bruising.
- The rare risk of under-eye filler would be blindness which would be experienced if the filler blocks the blood vessel that supplies blood to the eye. Other rare risks could include allergic reactions, scar formation, infection, and ulceration although all unlikely.
MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH UNDER-EYE FILLER
I used 1 cc of Teosyal RHA 2 to achieve my results. RHA 2 is composed of a Resilient Hyaluronic Acid (RHA) which allows for more flexibility and movement. I did not have to pay for it, which is a perk of my job. As I mentioned above, I did experience a significant amount of bruising and swelling following the procedure which is not the norm for most patients in my experience. Once the bruising and swelling went down there was a bit of unevenness that needed to be fixed. Fortunately, with the type of filler used this was achievable with some simple pressure and manipulation.
When all was said and done I was quite happy with my results. I used to stress about how dark the circles under my eyes were becoming. Now I don’t think about it at all… because they aren’t there! This procedure was done 5 months ago and the volume is still present. I expect to continue to see results for another 4 to 7 months before I may need another round of injections. I will likely do it again in the future!
